Good evening,
We did not have internet access last night so I am catching up tonight...
All has gone really well, we have had brilliant a reception at each centre...
On Tuesday we left the hotel in Nottingham and travelled up the M1 etc to Scotch Corner, turned left A66 to Penrith and then north on the motorways to Glasgow - no problem! We were met at Lanarkshire Maggies by Connie and Norma (thanks to all for the card/gifts and cakes that went down so well with the cups of tea!!!). Overnight with a very special relly, May, and then up early to go into Glasgow on Wednesday morning.
This morning we were again early at Glasgow Maggies. What a great place! Our first fully open Maggies Centre... So much going on and we were offered not only tea/coffee etc but also porridge (already cooking on the stove!). The tour showed some very interesting uses of the space available, really good. Everyone was friendly and helpful and an especial thanks to Maureen (Centre Head) and Kirsty (Fundraiser) for their warm welcome and photo opportunity.. At 11.00 am we were back on the road heading north.
We had a stunning drive past Loch Lomond and Loch Ness to Inverness and were delayed three times as the swing bridges across the Caledonian Canal were opened to allow boats to pass.
We arrived a quarter of an hour late at Inverness Maggies but the kettle was on!!! The shortbread was lovely (my favourite!) and we are saving 'the tablet' for the journey to John o Groats tomorrow! What a unique building! Absolutely fascinating - we are all so used to recctangular buildings.... Thankyou to Fiona (Fund raiser), Debbie (Information) and Tracy (Psychologist) for not needing to rush off as they were able to explain more about how Maggies helps in so many ways and so many people from as far afield as the Western Isles and the Orkneys!
Tomorrow we are heading as far north as is possible on the UK mainland and returning to Inverness (Travelodge) for another night. We had a really good meal at the Fairways next door (thanks to Sarah our waitress) and have already filled up with fuel ready for tomorrow.
We are doing 50 mpg and have covered 761 miles so far...
Hope to check in again tomorrow...
