Day 1 Motoring for Maggies

Hi to everyone who has been supporting us in this charity challenge drive around the UK...

We set off from Maggie's South West Wales at 9.45 precisely this morning... our thanks to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Swansea for being there with so many others to wave us off!

We made good time until we reached road works in Gloucester and lost about 25 minutes but we arrived in time to meet Sian Davies at the site of the Cotswolds Maggies, we appreciated the banner on our arrival - thank you for that touch - we had time for a quick lunch and then set off for Nottingham.

Again traffic was heavier than expected and we were 20 minutes later than we had hoped when we eventually arrived at Nottingham but were able to meet Theresa White who showed us the site where Nottingham Maggies should be built. Theresa and I think it will be a great idea to visit each other's Maggie's when they are all up and running so we will be planning another Motoring for Maggie's trip in a few years time - anyone care to sign up? Time for a cup of tea and a chat before setting off to meet up with my sister, Alex and her husband, Roy for an excellent meal at The Otter in Kegworth.

We are now at the Travelodge on the services at Nottingham Trowell - ready for a good sleep before setting of for Wishaw, Lanarkshire tomorrow.

Only 238 miles so far...

We have already raised £2000 so another thank you to all contributors.... every penny we raise is going to Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres - please remember that we are not claiming back any expenses from our trip.

Probably no blog tomorrow as we will be in an internet free zone for the night!

Keep smiling!

Berni and Ian
