Sunny Sunday in the North East of England...
We set off from Berwick and headed for Holy Island/Lindisfarne but the causeway was due to be covered by the tide and so we continued south to Bamburgh Castle. What an amazing place! Roy was on duty in the room with the portraits/photographs. He was able to give us a short history of the castle - we were particularly impressed with the use of current family pictures that bring the castle and its history to life - thank you....
Then it was off to find somewhere for Sunday Lunch - we drove through Seahouses and decided to try The Links Hotel. We had a friendly welcome from both staff and customers AND an excellent lunch. Just what we needed. Thank you.
After lunch we continued along the coastal route and kept turning into various villages and stopped at several beaches. We spoke to many people, mostly those walking their dogs! All were sociable and made us feel very much at home. Best wishes to the couple with the Russian Borzoi dogs and we hope a previously broken leg allowed you to reach the beach???
All the beaches were clear and clean and we recommend them as well worth a visit.
Tomorrow we will be visiting the site of the proposed Maggie's North East Centre at Newcastle upon Tyne then its down the A1/M1 to Hemel Hempstead for an overnight before going into Hammersmith followed by a visit to Oxford....
