Sunday 28th September 2008

Hello, I have nearly completed Motoring for Maggie's.... The justgiving web page shows £2994 and I know I have some more pledges to collect! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, although I would have preferred not to have had cancer last year, I know that I have a much more positive outlook now than I had this time last year and am enjoying every day as it happens. I do hope that others will be able to benefit from my endeavours...

Sunday 14th September 2008

Hello,

Tomorrow evening I shall be making a 'Motoring for Maggie's' Powerpoint Presentation at the SHVR - Swansea Historic Vehicle Register - Club Night. As I have not made a Powerpoint Presentation before I am a little trepidatious.... but I am sure it will be fine on the night!

Money is still coming in and I keep up-dating the 'justgiving' web page...

As I am feeling fit again I now am back in full-time work, tiring but I am very happy to be able to get back to work I can tell you! (just think of the alternative?)

Anyway, loads of paperwork for school now so I will place another Blog in a couple of weeks time...

17th August 2008

Hello again,

I have been a bit busy lately re-writing this blog as a story - it's taking me longer than I expected!

I am also about to start re-creating this as a Powerpoint Presentation - something else I have not tried to do seriously before!

The www.justgiving.com/motoringformaggies website has just been up-dated to show current received total of £2621.... fabulous and I still have more to collect!

As I will be back in work (school) in two weeks time I had better crack on and get everything finished during the next few days...

4 weeks after our return...

Hello to everyone who is still following this blog!

I have just been up-dating the www.justgiving.com/motoringformaggies web page to show our latest total of donations received now standing at £2363... amazing!

As we travelled 2531 miles around the UK that means we are on almost £1 per mile covered - I am well pleased with that - thank you to all have have been supporting us.

Yesterday we spent 4 hours in the foyer of our local Tesco supermarket with a collecting bucket, this will be opened next Friday at Maggie's South West Wales Centre when we have our Maggie's Active Friends meeting so I will up-date again after that.

I have a number of other amounts to be collected so I hope to be able to arrange that this week in order to find out how close I am to my personal target of £4000.

Fifi, my fifteen year old Fiesta, flew through her MOT a couple of weeks ago so I am already wondering about another big drive - 'sur la continent, peu t'etre?'

Back to normality now of course, belated spring cleaning in anticipation of work agin in September - its hard top believe all that has happened in the past year. Diagnosis and treatment are only part of the deal. Recovery back to normality has not been easy but I am getting there.

Two weeks after our return

A quick up-date on our fund raising total - £2,251 and rising - thank you to all our supporters...

We all survived the trip and Fifi Braveheart is due for her MOT on Monday - should go OK.

The only 'repairs needed were 1 litre of oil, replace one tail light and the driver's door mirror (that had been a bit wobbly before we set off) had to be replaced on our return - pretty good going we think. We were particularly impressed with 48 mpg over the whole journey!

We now have so many wonderful memories of the people we met and places we visited - we will carry these always... thank you.

Back to normality now

Day 12

Leaving Filleigh bright and early we made very good progress along the M5 and M4 back to Swansea.

We were delighted at our reception - the photograph does not show all who were waiting for our arrival. We loved the banner! The Lord and Lady Mayoress of Swansea, Gareth and Carol Sullivan were there for our official return as were Maggie's South West Wales Centre Staff, Centre Head Debbie, Clinical Psychologist Merryl and Community Fundraiser Vicki. Many friends and family were able to join us and we thank them all for being there. Time for some more photos and then inside for the party fare. As it was also my birthday there was a cake with candles, beautifully decorated by Vicki, thank you so much for that! I also received a gorgeous bouquet of flowers!

When the Evening Post photographer arrived we had our 'official' photo taken in the garden - it was a fabulous finish to Motoring for Maggies!

Fifi has averaged 211 miles per day over 12 days and 48 mpg (it would have been nearly 50 but the trip into London was only 35 mpg on that day and brought down the figures)

We have received well over £2000 already and have other sponsor forms and donations now waiting to be collected.

I plan to keep adding to this blog on a weekly basis in order to let you all know the amount that is actually being received and will also be up-dating the justgiving web page www.justgiving.com/motoringformaggies

I am delighted when I hear such positive responses from those who are reading my brief log of our journey. I will be expanding on this over the next few weeks in what I hope will form a travelogue. One of my favourite genres of book nowadays!

Again I must thank everyone we have met on our way around the UK - my Journey to Recovery -Motoring for Maggies.....

To all who have made donations and given other gestures of support including Surefit Garage and Trevor Lewis Signs in Swansea thank you sounds inadequate but is heartfelt.
